Hello! You landed here, perhaps on your own; or I invited you. Either way, if you are a business owner in Wisconsin I invite you to post your business card on our Facebook community page . If you received an email notice from me, I was in your area, found your business card posted somewhere and have already placed your business card on this site. I wanted to “give you the business”! The more your card is seen, the more chances someone sees it and does business with you, right? However, when it’s on North Wisconsin Small Biz site you can also link your post to your company website, and do all sorts of wonderful online things to get more exposure; all that is up to you. I’m just getting it all started by including you with other great Wisconsin businesses. There is no cost or obligation. I do this because… I believe in the power of small business so I post business cards from time to time to help out. I also use this site to post other informative articles whic

Overall Small Business Holiday Outlook How are small business owners feeling about the economic outlook as a whole?  Very positive: The most recent  Small Business Optimism index  report for October 2019 rose slightly to 102.4, which the NFIB calls “historically a very solid reading.” Over the years, the Index has ranged from a record low of about 80 to a high of around  107, to put it in perspective. This means the current optimism is closer to historic highs, and that’s good. The NFIB Uncertainty Index fell 4 points in October to 78 — and that’s also a good thing. The Uncertainty Index measures when owners are not sure about what the future holds. For perspective, one of the  most  uncertain times was August of 2016 when the score was 87. While there is still some uncertainty with the situation in Washington, this move is positive. The Consumer sentiment numbers are holding up well. They are in the upper ranges historically, as shown by the chart below from  Tradenomics  / U

Is Paid Leave Coming to Wisconsin?

Image
The proposed Wisconsin Family Medical Leave Insurance Act would be funded by employee contributions to an employee-funded state insurance fund. Under a new proposal, Wisconsin workers would be eligible for up to 12 weeks of paid leave. With the introduction of the Wisconsin Family Medical Leave Insurance Act (FMLIA), workers will be able to take time off due to personal or family illness or to care for a new child. The Department of Workforce Development and the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance shall determine the amount of employee contributions necessary to fund the benefit. Contributions will go to an employee-funded state insurance fund to provide wage replacement for employees who take leave from work. NFIB members have been made aware of a sneaky law which is trying to get by in congress which  is burdensome paperwork, an invasion of privacy and will severely penalize business owners who do not comply. Now you are aware too. Do your own due diligence and contact your legislators and tell them what you think about HR2513, The Corporate Transparency Act. Here are details (sorry about these being photographs) and to read the letter sent by NFIB click here . These kind of issues are constantly being addressed while you, the small business person tries daily to run your business, make a profit, employ people and help the economy. Want to be made aware of these issues before they become law; when you can make a difference? Join NFIB today. (Information presented on this site is solely that of Terry Scott and not necessarily approved,  endorsed or otherwise that of NFIB).

Why, regardless what industry you are in and what other associations you belong, your business needs this...

First of all, let me say this. I've always loved small business and having been in business myself for many years, I believe that there is nothing better. I encourage everyone to have some sort of business regardless if it only part time of a full fledged company employing many people.  I'm a membership rep for NFIB and am pleased to visit many business owners on a daily basis. To me NFIB membership is essential for any business person to learn about the issues, take as little time as he or she wants to invest in voting on them and then go about their business with the peace of mind that NFIB is working on their behalf. NFIB membership dues is whatever the business owners feel they can afford (up to $15K). It's more important to have a member than a dues which would hinder membership by very small businesses. Everyone's "voice" is important and NFIB is the "voice of small business" in every state capital and in Washington D.C.  That'

As a membership rep for NFIB I am sharing here a few things about NFIB. When you want to become a member, please use the "contact us" on this page (The three tiny horizontal bars in the upper left of this page). NFIB is the voice of small business, advocating on behalf of America’s small and independent business owners, both in Washington, D.C., and in all 50 state capitals. NFIB is nonprofit, nonpartisan, and member-driven. Since our founding in 1943, NFIB has been exclusively dedicated to small and independent businesses, and remains so today. WE ADVOCATE When a big issue affects small and independent businesses, NFIB is there. We have been for 75 years, and we will continue to be. We represent our members’ interests—our one member, one vote balloting process guides our work. NFIB has an ear to the ground on what’s happening in Washington, D.C., and the state capitals. That puts NFIB at the forefront of advocating on today’s most pressing small business issues,

Should I belong to 100 Associations for business success?

Image
Alright, I exaggerate a bit. But it may seem like a business owner needs to belong to so many organizations to exist and succeed in business. As a membership rep for NFIB I'm truly blessed to see so many business owners. I am saddened however at times to find that they are misinformed and they think that their small business is "just fine" because they belong to an association and that "they've got it covered". The truth is, they do not. Certainly in the areas that NFIB deals with for each small business owner who is a member. NFIB's "one member one vote" policy sets it apart of any other organization I've yet heard about. I've chatted with some business owners who told me that they don't agree with how their association voted on or did something which they did not agree. Their association model is to vote in a board which is supposed to represent them. When they don't, "ah well". So here is a short Facebook post
